Customized Double-Storey Detachable Container House Project in Indonesia
Customized Double-Storey Detachable Container House Project in Indonesia Feb 05, 2026

TOPINDUS recently completed a Customized Detachable Container House with Staircase project for a client in Indonesia, featuring two independent double-storey housing solutions designed to adapt to different terrains and functional requirements. This project fully demonstrates the flexibility, modularity, and practicality of detachable container houses in real-world applications.

The first set consists of six 20ft stackable detachable container houses, combined into a two-storey structure and built at the foot of a mountain. Due to the uneven terrain and slope conditions, the client prioritized structural safety and long-term stability. Before installation, a solid concrete foundation was constructed to level the ground and provide strong support, ensuring the entire building remains safe, stable, and durable over time.

To enhance usability and comfort, this 2-Storey Container House was equipped with a protective roof overhang, which helps shield the structure from heavy rain and strong sunlight—an important consideration in tropical climates. An external staircase was also added, allowing smooth access between floors without occupying indoor space. The modular layout offers spacious interiors, making it suitable for residential use, staff accommodation, or small-scale hospitality projects in natural settings.

The second set of Modular Container Buildings was installed on relatively flat land, which simplified the foundation work while still maintaining a double-storey design with an external staircase and roof overhang. However, this set included more customized architectural requirements to enhance visual appeal and living experience.

According to the client’s request, one room on the second floor was transformed into an open balcony, creating a relaxing outdoor space with better airflow and scenic views. This modification not only improves comfort but also adds aesthetic value to the overall structure. Additionally, one room on the first floor was upgraded with a floor-to-ceiling glass window on one side, significantly enhancing indoor brightness and visual openness. This design allows more natural light to enter the room and strengthens the connection between indoor and outdoor environments.

Both sets of Prefabricated Container Houses reflect TOPINDUS’s ability to provide flexible customization, whether adapting to challenging terrain or meeting specific architectural preferences. From structural layout to exterior features, each detachable container house was tailored to the client’s needs while maintaining efficiency, safety, and modern design standards.

How Is a Detachable Container House Transported?

Detachable Container House is designed specifically for efficient transportation. Unlike fully assembled modular buildings, detachable container houses are disassembled into flat components, including steel frames, wall panels, floors, roofs, doors, and windows.

These components are packed in a flat-pack format, which greatly reduces volume during transportation. The flat panels and steel structures are carefully bundled and protected to prevent damage. Once delivered to the destination, the house can be quickly assembled on-site using bolts and standardized connections, without the need for heavy construction equipment.

This transportation method makes detachable container houses especially suitable for overseas projects, remote locations, and large-scale developments.

What Is the Most Economical Way to Transport Container Houses?

The most economical transportation method for container houses is shipping them as flat-pack units inside standard shipping containers, usually 20ft or 40ft containers.

By dismantling the house structure and loading the components efficiently, multiple container houses can be packed into a single shipping container, significantly reducing shipping costs per unit. This method maximizes container space utilization, lowers freight expenses, and minimizes handling risks.

Compared to transporting fully assembled houses, flat-pack shipping:

1. Reduces shipping volume and cost

2. Allows bulk transportation for large projects

3. Simplifies customs clearance

4. Lowers the risk of damage during transit

For international projects like this one in Indonesia, flat-pack container shipping is the most cost-effective, flexible, and widely used solution.
